CANADIAN MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005

Note: The 2005 Canadian Marathon Championships are being held coincidently with the World Masters Games. There will be only one race for each age and class thus the Canadian Champion will be the highest placing Canadian Crew the has registered for the Championships. It is possible to enter only the Masters Games or only the Canadian Championships or you can enter both. Be aware that to be eligible for Canadian Medals both members of a crew must be Canadian.

DATE- July 23 - 26  2005

VENUE- Devon Alberta, on the North SASKATCHEWAN River , See Map below.  Registration and race office will be in Devon Lions Campground. Office open July 21 noon-4:00 and July 22 10:00 - 6:00

BANQUET - Awards Banquet Monday evening July 25 at 6:30 at the Devon Golf and Country Club. The Golf Club is within walking distance of the race site. Medals for the first three days will be given out at this banquet while the last days medals will be given out at the race site at the end of the day.

AWARDS - National Medals (1st, 2nd. 3rd) will be awarded to the highest placing Canadian crews in each age group for MC-2, Mixed MC2, MC-1, K-1. A minimum of 3 entries needed to make a class.

AGE CLASSES- for the Canadian Championships we have the following age classes , for crews the ages are averaged. Note if you intend to paddle with a partner from another country you will not be eligible for Canadian Championships but you can compete in the World Masters Games.

BANTAM 14 and under
JUVENILE 15 - 17
JUNIOR 18-20
OPEN ALL
M1 Men 40+ Women 40+
M2 Men 50+ Women 50+
M3 Men 60+ Women 60+

BOAT CLASSES- Races will be held in the following classes of boats.

MC-2 3x27 racing shell
MC-1 4x32 solo boats
K-1 ICF kayak
   

NOTE: If you register in the World Masters Games you will be able to compete in several other events, there will be Outrigger races on the same course so instead of racing Marathon C-1 you could race OC-1 and on the off day in the Marathon schedule there will be a long distance OC-6 race. Also during the sprint regatta that follows the marathon events there are OC-1 - 500m and 1000m sprints as well as OC-6 - 1000m sprints. For the WMG you pay only one fee no matter how many events you enter. Details

SCHEDULE- SAMPLE DAILY SCHEDULE - this is a tentative schedule that may change depending on numbers.

NOTE - The schedule has been changed so that all small boat races , except for the MIXED, Jr, Bantum and JUVENILE are now in the morning. This was done to allow greater participation in the 6-man Outrigger events that are part of the World Masters Games.

ACCOMMODATIONSDevon is about a 30 min drive south and west of Edmonton, there are excellent camping facilities at the start area in Devon
