So we are all talking the same language, the following terms mean;
  • Canoe - a craft powered by a single bladed paddle
  • Kayak - a craft powered by a double bladed paddle
  • ICF - International Canoe Federation
  • C-1and C-2 are one and two person canoes that meet the ICF specs
  • K-1,K-2,K-4 are 1,2 and 4 person kayaks that meet the ICF specs.
  • OC-1 and OC-6 are Outrigger Canoes for one and six people
  • MC-1 and MC-2 are North American style marathon canoes for one and two persons
  • VC-10 Voyageur Canoe

EVENTS: Outrigger paddlers can race a total of 6 events 3 sprints and 3 long distance. you can also enter other classes if you like. so you can also race an ICF Kayak or a Marathon Canoe. for details on all races

race course is on the North Saskatchewan River, runs down river from Devon the Terwillegar Park. The river is slow flowing with no hazards so should not cause any problem for the outrigger canoes. The course is a bit under 2hrs long.

ENTRIES ARE CLOSED
AGE CLASSES - The races are run over four days, each age group will compete in different events on each day. You may enter only one event per day. Age classes are in 10 year increments 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+. For all boats with more than one competitor the average are is used ( official age is your age as of Dec 31/2005)   NOTE - If crew boat has someone in the crew who is form a different decade than the one entered they will have to miss one of there events. Example if a 30 year old is racing in a crew entered in the 40-49 class (with average age this is possible) then on the day that the crew boat is racing the 30 - 39 year olds will be racing something else.

SPRINT - all competitors will use the fleet of C-lion OC-1's and Advantage OC-6's. The use of a fleet of uniform boats in keeping with the standard set by the IVF for world championships. The exception would be if a competitor has a physical disability that requires a modification the the canoe so that they can paddle, in this case the paddler will be allowed to use their own boat provided in the opinion of the organizers it does not provide an advantage. 

There will be a boat rental fee for the Sprint Regatta - $25/event entered or $65 for all three events. There is no need to reserve boats for sprint and the fees can be paid on site.

LONG DISTANCE - As is custom in all major long distance races, you can bring your own boat. There are no rules or limits on OC-1's so all boats can be used. We will have OC-1's available for rent, we hope that those who a close enough to bring their own will and the rentals will be available for those who come from farther away.

CANADIAN MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005

The CANADIAN MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005 are being held coincidently with the World Masters Games, you can enter both events (if you are Canadian) but there is only one race. the Canadian Champion is the highest placing Canadian crew in the WMG's event.

ACCOMMODATIONSDevon is about a 30 min drive south and west of Edmonton, there are excellent camping facilities at the start area in Devon

 

All activities, registration, medal presentations, socials etc will be at the finish area in Devon
