Youth Full-Time Sprint Canoe/Kayak

Appropriate for ages 9 – 18+

Training for the Sprint Racing Program takes place year round. The program is designed to be in line with Canoe/Kayak Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Framework and principles. We have divided our program into seasonal (on water) and off-season.

Athletes typically start with the spring or summer Learn 2 Paddle Program before transitioning to the full time Sprint Program, however, this is not mandatory as we have many youth join the program with other sport backgrounds or are older in age. Feel free to contact us with any questions how to get started in the sprint program.

Below is a progression of the programs for the Sprint Program and training schedules.

NOTE: If you are NEW to paddling please see the Youth Learn 2 Paddle page.

Programming Fees and Schedules

FUNdamentals (ages 9-14)

Suggested pre-requisites: 1 session of Youth Learn 2 Paddle camp either Spring or Summer.

FUNdamentals is a step up from the L2P camps and is designed for youth to have fun as well as develop their paddling skills. Youth will have a chance to compete in regattas throughout the summer season.

Fee: Junior membership + $500 for full participation May – October. Fees will be prorated for youth that attend a L2P program immediately prior to transitioning to the full time Sprint program.

Weather conditions are taken into consideration with the activities. Regardless of poor weather we have the indoor facilities to accommodate training so the program is never cancelled.

Train 2 Train (Development)

Pre-Requisites: 1 year or more of the FUNdamentals program, at the coach’s discretion. Age will also be taken into consideration.

This program is the transition between FUNdamentals and Learn to Compete in the Long Term Athlete Development model. These athletes are now committed to more training, therefore the number of workouts is greater than the FUNdamentals program in the spring and fall. Coaches will communicate with athletes and parents and will determine the progression of paddlers as they develop.

Fee: Junior Membership + $600 for full participation May – October.
