Olympic Style Racing canoes and kayaks.
Certified coaches develop paddlers' fitness and technical skills to propel Calgary single, double, four and 15-person boats to the podium in local, national and international events.
Although we are a racing team, we understand that not all paddlers dream of standing on the Olympic Podium; the program is designed to provide the foundation for long-term athlete development and a lifelong love of sport. If you want to have fun in the fast boats, we offer a Safe and Fun experience to enjoy with friends.
Who can join the Sprint Team?
Paddlers who have completed a 2-week L2P session or have previously been in the Sprint Team. New paddlers age 13+ can join the Sprint Team directly with a 2- week Sprint Intro session. Have you read our Vaccination Policy, Click here to read.
Are paddlers grouped by age?
In the final step of registration, you will select the paddlers' age. U12's train as a group, and U14's train as a group to maximize our equipment resources and group paddlers that are closer in ability.
Club Membership is required to participate in Sprint Paddling Programs that are longer than two weeks. There are individual and family memberships available. Membership and Sprint Team options are If you already have a membership, do not add it again.
Returning Paddlers in the U14 age groups have sessions from 9-4:30 pm in July and August with 4:30-5:30 sessions in the spring and fall (see start dates and more info below). Winter cross training continues for those that want to continue with friends to prepare for the next season.
New paddlers 14+ (age on January 1st) typically prefer not to be at the Club for the whole day (9-4:30 pm). For these older paddlers, practice sessions are Monday-Friday, 9:00-10:45, and Canoe sessions are 3:00-4:30. If paddlers choose to participate in the whole day, War Canoe is 10:45-12:30 and Physical Conditioning 1:30-3:00. At the end of the Sprint Intro, paddlers will be comfortable in the boats and ready to join our experienced team earlier in the morning and the evenings.
Older, experienced paddlers generally train twice a day in the summer season in the morning or evening. Spring and Fall sessions continue to be offered year-round before and after school hours.
