COVID-19 Guidelines

Calgary Canoe Club’s COVID Response Plan

The CCC has been actively engaged in learning, and adapting our practices, in order to be prepared for our reopening. We have been supported by our partners which include; the City of Calgary with regular CEMA briefings, Sport Calgary and our National governing body; Canoe Kayak Canada. We were able to share strategies and develop policies in order to get our members back on the water while mitigating risk for both staff and members.

Face Coverings are REQUIRED when entering the building for Canoe Rentals. Please only have 1 person at office desk to do payment and deposit. The rest of your party can wait outside or get lifejackets and paddles while waiting. If a customer is at the desk being helped please wait outside until that person has moved on.

2021: Opening date TBC. We hope we will be open to recreation members and canoe rentals in early May. We have gone to an Online booking system for Recreational members. Fees will not been prorated if we open later, thank you for your support and understanding.

Guidelines for distancing, max numbers on site, disinfecting protocol and no sharing of common equipment do factor into our decision to limit programming.

Competitive Outrigger and Sprint Canoe/Kayak. Both paddling disciplines will be run with training in single boats (ongoing TBC). At this point, there will be no competitive events this season for both groups. All paddlers will be scheduled for a specific training session time. This helps us minimize congestion and spread out paddlers from boat bays to the dock onto the reservoir.

Summer Learn to paddle programs – we are now able to run outdoor daycamps (previously cancelled). With limited access to the building we have made modifications to our programs for 2021.

2021 Season Modifications:

  • NO PRE OR POST CARE AVAILABLE*. Please arrive at designated start time.
  • L2P will be cancelled for very poor weather days where kids would have to be inside for the day, we will provide 24hrs notice*
  • No crew boats for sprint canoe/kayak, No dragon boat
  • Disinfecting of recreation canoes, kayaks and paddles between use
  • Please bring your own PFD if possible

Club Procedures

YES, you will notice some changes at the Club. In order to mitigate risk and follow AHS guidelines the following changes are in place;

  • Staff will arrive first to carry out opening procedures and sanitize items
  • Additional disinfecting of common touch surfaces will be done throughout the day
  • All participants must disinfect their boat following their paddling session
  • No shared equipment during a session
  • Any Club shared equipment will be sanitized following use, please note;
    • This makes it challenging for use of PFD’s, we ask that all participants bring their own PFD
  • We ask that any participant/member of the public remain outside and do not enter the boat bays without permission
  • Hand sanitizer will be placed outside in various locations and all participants must sanitize their hands prior to starting their program activities
  • All participants will be asked (and reminded if necessary) to maintain a 2m physical distance from other participants while outside
  • Coaches and staff will wear a mask when they may be in situations where distancing protocol may not occur (assisting with boat carries, rescues, etc)
  • All participants and staff are to review the health screening questionnaire on a daily basis and will remain home should they answer ‘yes’ to any of the questions;
