UPDATE - Jan 19, 2026:  Our Provincial Sport Organization, Alberta Sprint Racing Canoe Association (ASRCA) will support Alberta athletes attending the 2026 Nanaimo training camp. We are currently finalizing payment details, which will now go directly to ASRCA as opposed to CCC.

Once the agreement is finalized will forward the updated details to make payments so please hold tight on further payments.

Athletes eligible for ASRCA funding must:
  • Be a current member, in good standing, of an ASRCA Member Club and been a member of an ASRCA Member Club in the 2025 summer season
  • Be a permanent resident of Alberta
  • Have no outstanding fines/fees payable to ASRCA
  • Volunteer at the next ASRCA Casino (June 2-3, 2026 at the ACE Airport Casino in Calgary), or have someone (i.e. parent/guardian) volunteer on their behalf (specifically if the athlete is under 18 and unable to volunteer). If you feel you are not eligible and cannot commit to the casino shift please let us know.

Considerations

  • Suited for athletes preparing for late-season peak performance at the Divisional and Canadian Championships.
  • Those aiming for National Team Trials 2 (NTT2) in mid-June who require early-season on-water time.
  • Senior athletes seeking additional spring training volume following March training, providing a smooth continuation into the competitive season.
  • Open to a full range of paddlers — from developing to senior-level athletes — creating opportunities for exposure to role models, mentorship, and a high-performance training environment.
  • Those seeking an affordable, accessible camp closer to home.
  • Not suitable for March but April sees high temperatures in the mid teens - making this Canadian location possible. Variable spring climate, may affect comfort and some training sessions.

Travel Plans

Athletes are responsible for booking their own travel to and from Nanaimo. Mike Will arrive with the boats the day before camp starts so can coordinate greeting athletes when they arrive Saturday.  Flights Sheet is posted (password can be requested once registration is confirmed).

Coaches

All coaches are fully certified with the National Coaching Certification Program as Competitive Sprint Canoe/Kayak and bring many years of experience. They are: Mike Robinson, Madeline Schmidt and Joanne Devlin-Morrison.

Equipment

Personal boats can go on the trailer between Calgary and Nanaimo but they are not covered by the Canoe Club Insurance. Private boat owners should ensure your boat is insured for damages.

Paddles and PFDs can go in the trailer box but should be wrapped well so they do not get scratched.

All other personal belongings should travel with the athelte. Do not assume the coaches will transport your personal belongings in the van. Please do not ask. Thanks.

Communication

The Athlete Chat will be used for training plans and within athlete discussions. Both of these chats will be monitored by the coaching team.
