About the Event & Training Resume

BC’s largest sprint regatta of the year! Held during the second weekend in September at Whonnock Lake, Maple Ridge, BC, this final sprint regatta gives paddlers of all ages a chance to show off their summer progress. Geared primarily towards U12 and U14, but also U16 athletes with 200m and 500m events (no long distance due to lake size). Minimum paddler count required for team travel. Official event details can be found on the Canoe Kayak BC Website.

🗓️ Post-Nationals Training Schedule: Following a week off while the team attends National Championships and everyone settles back into the school routine, U12 and U14 training resumes on Tuesday, September 1st. This provides the team with two solid weeks of preparation ahead of the competition!

Format will be very similar to last year. I may rearrange a few races to make the morning shorter for the volunteers.

Volunteers & Officials

If you are able to help out, please email Sandra (commodore@fortcanoekayak.ca).

Please circulate this to your club's parents!

Team Staff, Paddlers, Parents & Conduct

Team Staff: Trailer Drivers, Lead Coaches (Mattea Patterson & Kristiane Free), and Parent Assistants.

Supervision Policy: We encourage parents to attend! Based on last year, we anticipate a good number of parents attending with the athletes — if so, this will be a big help shuttling athletes to and from the race course. For U12 athletes, a parent must attend or formally assign their child to another parent acting as a guardian/chaperone. Coaches lead the team and oversee safety, but their focus is coaching and they cannot monitor athletes' downtime at all times.

Parent Volunteers Needed: Indicate interest when registering your athlete. Volunteers require a Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (Click Here for Screening Details).

Conduct: Calgary Canoe Club athletes have a fantastic reputation for being kind, respectful, and organized. All athletes represent CCC and must uphold sportsmanship and CanoeKayak Canada guidelines. We are confident it will be a wonderful event!

Boat & Equipment Loading

Trailer loading is Wednesday, Sept 9th, at 4:30 pm (~2 hours).

Equipment Reminder: Please attend loading in person to ensure correctly sized paddles and required gear are placed on the trailer.

Transportation & Flight Options

We encourage athletes to try and fly as a group or in small groups (chaperones subject to parent flight choices). Shuttles will run between Abbotsford Airport (YXX), hotel, and race venue via team van or train (route details here).

✈️ Share & View Flight Bookings: We have set up a password-protected page where you can share your flight details and view what flights other athletes have booked.
